Off the record: 5 stories you may have missed this weekend

Giant inflatable pigs, riots and showboating gone wrong.

UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN glued to the internet all weekend, there’s a chance that some weird and wonderful sporting tidbits might have slipped through the cracks. Here’s a run-down of some of the stories you may have missed.

5. #PIGS DO FLY When River Plate and Boca Juniors meet you’re always guaranteed decent football, the odd controversial decision, passionate fans and, now it seems, a giant inflatable pig that holds up the game. The match itself ended 2-2 after Boca scored a stoppage time equaliser.

4. #CLEAN UP The San Francisco Giants fans celebrated their team’s four game sweep of the Detroit Lions in baseball’s world series with the mother of all parties in the city by the bay. Some, unfortunately celebrated a little too hard with reports of up too 100 rioters setting fires, smashing windows and attacking police.

3. #IN REVERSE Unfortunately for Antonio Brown his touchdown was called back for a penalty earlier in the play which made his decision to run backwards for 30-yards even more ridiculous. Still, the Steelers went on to win the game so they won’t be too unhappy.

2. #MINE, NO IT’S MINE Is there a more pathetic sight than two grown men fighting over another grown man’s football jersey? If there is, we didn’t see it this weekend. We’re no experts, but it doesn’t look like it’ll fit the guy who eventually claimed it.

1. #NOT GOOD ON DRY LAND Michael Phelps might be good at swimming but he’s not so hot at crowd surfing. According to this video, being 6′ 4″ and weighing in excess of 200 lbs is not conducive to crowd surfing over a boisterous crowd in a Vegas nightclub.
